When a dog is found in Gold Canyon, with no identification tags, no license and no microchip, previously our only recourse was to call Pinal County Animal Control in Casa Grande until we could find the owner through PAW Alert of Gold Canyon. Starting April 20th, 2005 we will be able to take our found dog(s) to a Holding Kennel situated at the Gold Canyon Pinal County Sheriff Sub-Station on Kings Ranch Rd. This project was possible thanks to Pinal County Sheriff Chris Vásquez; Chief Deputy Jerald Monahan; Lt. Jack McClaren; Sandie Smith, Pinal County Supervisor; Jane Decker, Director of Pinal County Animal Control, who provided the kennel, and the many citizens who volunteered, including our own firefighters, to take care of a found dog. In the event we are unsuccessful in finding the owners in a reasonable amount of time, we will have to call Pinal County Animal Care & Control and/or work with a rescue organization to place the dog.

Steve Stockton & his dog Mike

Steve Stockton, Battalion Chief for the Apache Junction Fire Department is the person responsible for this great idea. Our deepest gratitude and thanks go out to everyone involved in this project with special thanks to the City of Apache Junction Animal Control personnel for their contribution of a doggie cage for smaller dogs, dog food, dog treats, blankets, dog dishes, a raised ground board to keep our found dogs comfortable from the heat and their expert advise and direction with this project! PAW Alert has worked very close with the Apache Junction Animal Control and their guidance is greatly appreciated.

Thank you Richard Carlos, owner of Canyon Nursery & Landscaping on Kings Ranch Rd, for providing us with 2 beautiful trees for the opening ceremony.
